What is your workplace culture like?
Office-Politics Letters June 12th
What is your workplace culture like? Is it friendly, frosty or hotter than hell? This week we hear about offices that are hot, cold and in between. An English worker in Finland, bemoans that her introverted coworker is so cold she won’t even say ‘hello’. Another letter-writer has the opposite problem, and tells us that she is working in Hell for a Narcissistic Editor. Read two different perspectives on the same letter. Part I is by Timothy Johnson and Part II is by Franke James. Echoing the Goldilocks fable, a letter then came in from a new employee who wondered what type of workplace culture she’d joined as everyone was just lukewarm… We went for another duo response on this one too… Christine Comaford-Lynch suggests that the writer pretend she is an anthropologist: Part 1: Office Picnic is No Picnic. While Jennifer Glueck Bezoza provides a Picnic checklist in Part II. We hope you find the multiple points of view on the same letters entertaining and informative! Please read the new letters, and then cast your vote in our Office-Politics Poll when we ask, “Is your workplace culture friendly?”
Results from last week’s Poll ‘Should older, disabled workers be given special treatment?’ resulted in 68% compassionate souls saying ‘Yes’. However, we must conclude that the 32% who answered ‘No’, must be either immune from growing old and weak, or independently wealthy. (Pray that you work with the 68%.)
What problems are you grappling with? Is a co-worker making you want to tear your hair out? Did the Boss call you into his/her office and then pull the rug out from under you! Did you snag a fired co-worker’s furniture, only to have it stolen by someone else? We’re here to help… Check out the full listing of our archived letters.
Submit your dilemma to ceo@officepolitics.com (Please put Office-Politics in the subject line.) We will keep your identity a secret. Please explain your problem succinctly. Between 100 – 400 words is ideal. Before submitting your letter please read the Terms of Submission.
